An Introduction to Re:Photo MK by Pete Hamilton

I was invited by Milton Keynes Gallery to conduct a research residency in the newly acquired Project Space as part of Space Invaders. It is hoped that my residency will be a springboard to a longterm project to explore Milton Keynes through rephotography and effect future developments within the designated area.

My starting point was a documentary made in 1972 by artist and architect Mike Macrae entitled A City Begins With People.

MK G’s Director Michael Stanley commented, “An expanding city like Milton Keynes provides a unique context in which to explore and debate issues surrounding art, architecture and the urban environment, and Mike Macrae’s film provides the perfect platform for this - especially in the context of the current consultation around the latest city expansion plans, and the city’s fortieth anniversary in 2007.”
